How is a perforated sheet specification actually defined?

A perforated sheet is defined by five numbers, not one. Hole shape and diameter set the appearance and the smallest feature that can be produced in a given thickness. Pitch, the centre-to-centre distance, together with the staggered or straight pattern, determines open area, which is the figure that governs airflow or light transmission. Material grade and thickness limit how small the hole can be, since a hole diameter below roughly the sheet thickness becomes difficult to punch cleanly. Margin, the unperforated border, matters for any panel that will be bent or fastened at the edge. Supplying all five removes the most common cause of a re-quote on perforated work, which is a drawing that shows a pattern picture but no open-area requirement.

Questions you may have

What do you need to quote a perforated panel?

Hole shape and diameter, pitch and pattern, required open area, material grade and thickness, sheet size and margin. A pattern image alone is not enough to quote.

Can you bend a perforated panel after perforating?

Yes. Perforate, bend and finish are routed as one job. Bend lines are positioned relative to the pattern at the drawing review stage.

Do you supply standard patterns or custom only?

Custom to drawing. YBT does not stock a standard perforated sheet catalogue; every panel is punched or laser cut to the customer’s pattern, which is the right model for burner covers, guards and ventilation parts that also need bending and finishing.

What open area can you achieve?

Open area is set by hole diameter and pitch on your drawing rather than limited by the process; the practical limit is the web between holes, which depends on material and thickness and is checked at quotation.
