ODM Solutions

ODM manufacturing for outdoor gas appliances

You bring the concept, the target market and the target cost. We carry it through design, tooling, certification testing and pilot runs, then ship assembled and packed finished goods from our own plant in Taichung.

What is an ODM supplier, and how is it different from a contract manufacturer?

An ODM supplier designs the product as well as builds it. A contract manufacturer waits for your drawings and quotes against them; an ODM partner starts from a concept, a target retail price or a competitor sample, and returns a manufacturable design, a tooling plan and a finished unit. For outdoor gas appliances the distinction matters because the product has to pass market certification before it can be sold, and certification is driven by design decisions such as burner layout, material grade and clearance distances. YBT has developed its own gas patio heaters and commercial grills since 1989. Five heater models and three grill models are in production, the patio heaters hold CE certification under Regulation (EU) 2016/426 (Intertek Italia, Notified Body 2575) and a cETLus listing to CSA/ANSI Z83.26 for North America, and the range is exported to Europe, North America, Central and South America, Australasia and Asia-Pacific. The design work is done by the same team that runs the stamping presses and the assembly line, so the result is a design that can actually be built at volume rather than one that has to be re-engineered after tooling. Since 2014 our plant has also produced electric heaters for one brand owner at about 20,000 units a year.

What is included in an ODM engagement, and what is not?

Written as a scope table so it can be pasted straight into an internal sourcing review.

Product design & 3DYes, quoted separatelyMost projects start from customer drawings; when YBT designs the product, the design and drafting work is charged as a development fee

Prototype / sampleYesSamples charged per run, paid in full up front; work starts once the quotation is signed
Certification testingCoordinatedSubmitted to an accredited body for your market. YBT’s own heaters hold CE (Intertek Italia, NB 2575) and cETLus (Intertek) certification, so both routes are established

What should I prepare before sending an ODM enquiry?

The more of this you supply up front, the sooner the reply stops being a list of questions.

1. Product intent

Concept sketch, reference product, or an existing unit you want re-sourced. A photo of a competitor product is a valid starting point.

2. Target market

Which countries the product will be sold in. This determines the certification scheme and therefore a large part of the design.

3. Volume and timing

Estimated annual quantity and target launch date. Volume changes the tooling approach, not just the price.

Send an ODM enquiry

The ODM form asks about project stage, target market, certification requirement and annual volume. It does not ask for drawings, because at this stage you may not have any.

Quotation for a complete product within 1 to 2 months, assemblies in 1 to 2 weeksFinished goods ship 45 to 60 working days after orderNDA signed on request

Which manufacturing processes sit behind an ODM project?

Everything below runs inside the same plant, so a design change does not mean re-quoting with three vendors.

Stamping

15 presses from 25 t to 265 t for panels, brackets and structural parts, dies made in house.

Stamping tonnage and tolerances ›

Laser cutting

TRUMPF TruLaser 1040 fiber for stainless, carbon steel and aluminium blanks.

Thickness by material ›

Bending

Seven TRUMPF and SafanDarley CNC press brakes for enclosures and covers, to 2.5 m.

Bend length and tonnage ›

Surface & assembly

Polishing, powder coating, liquid paint and plating, then assembly to a packed unit.

ODM questions you may have

Do you own the design, or do we?
Tooling paid for by the customer belongs to the customer. If production does not reach the quantity agreed in the contract, the tooling design fee is charged separately. Design work is either supplied by the customer as drawings or carried out by YBT for a separately quoted development fee. Confidentiality is covered by the customer’s NDA, agreed and signed by both parties before designs are exchanged.
Can you develop a product to a target FOB price?
Yes. Target cost is treated as a design input at the feasibility stage, alongside target market and volume, rather than something negotiated after tooling is cut. Quotations are given FOB in USD, with sample runs charged per run and paid in full.
Which certifications can you support for gas appliances?
CE under Regulation (EU) 2016/426 for the European market, with Module D production surveillance already in place at the plant through Intertek Italia (Notified Body 2575), and cETLus listing through Intertek to CSA/ANSI Z83.26 and CSA 2.37 for the United States and Canada. Both are held on YBT’s own patio heaters today; testing for a new ODM product goes through the same bodies.
Can you re-source an existing product we already sell?
Yes. Provide a sample unit and, if available, the existing drawings and certification report. The feasibility review then focuses on which parts transfer directly and which need re-tooling.
Do you supply components as well, or only complete units?
Both. Complete assembled units are the ODM route; individual stamped, cut or bent parts are quoted through Manufacturing Services against your drawings.
