Sheet Metal Laser Cutting

Laser cutting of stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminium, with no tooling cost and same-file turnaround on design changes.

What thickness and materials we can laser cut

Laser cutting capacity is set by three things: laser source power, the material being cut, and the assist gas. For the same machine, achievable thickness in carbon steel is typically the highest, stainless steel somewhat lower, and aluminium lower again, because reflectivity and thermal conductivity work against the process. Edge quality also falls off well before the absolute maximum thickness, so the practical limit for a part with a cosmetic edge is lower than the machine's rated ceiling. Ask us about that distinction directly, because a quoted maximum thickness with no mention of edge quality tells you very little. Laser cutting carries no tooling cost, which makes it the right route for prototypes, low volume and parts whose design is still changing.

Questions you may have

Can you cut a one-off prototype?
Yes. Laser cutting has no tooling cost, so single pieces are feasible. Prototype and small quantities are quoted case by case, with the unit price reflecting the volume; the 1,000 pcs figure is a guideline for production runs, not a cut-off.
What edge quality can we expect?
Cutting accuracy is ±0.1 mm. Edge finish depends on material and thickness; the maximum thicknesses above are cutting limits, and for parts where edge appearance matters the practical thickness is lower. State the visible-edge requirement on the drawing and it is confirmed at quotation.
Do you also bend the parts you cut?
Yes. Cut and bend are routed as one job, which avoids the datum mismatch that appears when two vendors work from the same drawing. See Sheet Metal Bending.
Can you cut non-metals?
No. YBT’s laser cutting is for sheet metal only: carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium and copper alloys.
